SONGKRAN 2027 – THAI NEW YEAR

Date: 13–15 April 2027 throughout Thailand — 11 to 19 April 2027 in Pattaya

Songkran 2027 in Pattaya, Koh Samui and Koh Phangan

Songkran (สงกรานต์) is the Thai New Year and the most joyful celebration of the year in Thailand. From 13 to 15 April 2027, the whole country comes together to welcome the new year with water, music, family gatherings and a festive atmosphere that fills every street.

A Celebration of Water and New Beginnings

Water is at the heart of Songkran. Traditionally, it symbolises cleansing and renewal: washing away the past year and starting the new one with good luck.

Families visit temples to make merit, build small sand stupas and gently pour scented water over the hands of their elders as a sign of respect, asking for their blessings for the year ahead. In the streets, this tradition has grown into a giant, friendly water celebration, where locals and visitors of all ages join in with water guns, buckets and smiles.

Songkran by the Sea

Pattaya

Pattaya is famous for one of the longest and liveliest Songkran celebrations in Thailand. While the national holiday lasts three days, the party in Pattaya goes on from 11 to 19 April. Beach Road, Walking Street and the beachfront turn into a festive water zone, with music, stages and celebrations day after day.

The highlight comes on 19 April with Wan Lai, Pattaya's own water festival. On this day, the whole of Beach Road becomes one giant water party, with tens of thousands of people celebrating from one end of the beachfront to the other. It is one of the biggest and most spectacular Songkran celebrations in the country.

Koh Samui

On Koh Samui, Songkran is celebrated across the island, with festivities around Chaweng Beach, temple ceremonies and a relaxed island atmosphere.

Koh Phangan

On Koh Phangan, Songkran offers a more local and traditional experience, with village celebrations, temple visits and friendly water play in a laid-back island setting.

Why attend?

  • Celebrate the Thai New Year, the biggest festival of the year in Thailand.

  • Join a giant, friendly water celebration with locals and visitors.

  • Discover Thai traditions, from temple visits to blessings for the new year.

  • Enjoy a festive atmosphere in the city or on the islands.

Good to Know

During Songkran, expect to get wet as soon as you step outside. A waterproof pouch for your phone and documents is essential, and light clothes that dry quickly make the day more comfortable. Traffic is slower in the busiest areas, especially around Beach Road in Pattaya. Water play is part of the fun, but it is good to stay respectful with monks, elderly people and those who prefer not to take part.

Make the Most of Your Trip

Songkran is the perfect time to combine the festivities with a few days of discovery. Our local guides can help you plan your stay:

Where to Stay for Songkran

Whether you come as a couple, with family or with a group of friends, Songkran is a celebration to share. A private pool villa gives everyone their own room, a private pool to keep the party going and a calm place to rest between two days of festivities.

PATTAYA LAND offers private pool villas in three destinations, with different capacities to suit couples, families and groups of friends:

  • Pattaya — villas in Soi Pattaya Land, near Walking Street and the heart of the celebrations

  • Koh Samui — villas on the Chaweng Noi hillside, with infinity pools and panoramic sea views

  • Koh Phangan — beachfront villas on Chaloklum Bay, with a private beach

For larger groups, several nearby villas may be booked together, subject to availability. Songkran is one of the busiest periods of the year in Thailand, so it is worth planning your stay early.

A new year, a lot of water, all your favourite people. You Only Live Once.
