Jomtien Complex: Pattaya's LGBTQ+ Nightlife Quarter

Pattaya's gay scene has its own address, and it is not on Walking Street. Jomtien Complex is a compact block of streets between Thappraya Road and Jomtien Beach, a few minutes' walk from Dongtan Beach, where gay bars, lounges, cabaret shows, cafés and guesthouses sit side by side. More neighbourhood than strip, friendlier than central Pattaya, and the one place in town where the LGBTQ+ crowd is at home rather than passing through. Everyone is welcome.

What to Expect

The streets: two or three short lanes around a central block, with open-front bars, terraces and a few larger venues with a stage. You can see most of it from the main lane and walk the whole complex in five minutes.

The bars: a mix of open-air beer bars where you sit on the terrace and watch the street, lounges for a quieter drink, host bars, and show bars with cabaret and drag performances in the evening. Several have been here for years and have a loyal crowd of regulars.

The crowd: gay men from Thailand and abroad, expats who live in Jomtien, couples and groups of friends, and a fair number of straight visitors who come for the shows and the atmosphere. Relaxed, social and unhurried.

The rhythm: the complex comes alive from the late afternoon, when people drift up from Dongtan Beach, and stays busy until the early hours, with shows mostly later in the evening.

  • Getting there: about 10 minutes by car from Walking Street or Soi Pattaya Land, over Pratumnak Hill. Bolt or Grab is the easiest option, or ask our team to arrange your transport.

  • Age: the legal drinking age in Thailand is 20.

Good to Know

  • Start at the beach: Dongtan Beach, Pattaya's gay beach, is a few minutes' walk away. Sunset there, then up to the complex, is the classic Jomtien evening.

  • Catch a show: several bars run cabaret or drag shows in the evening. Ask at the bar for the time, and arrive a little early for a good seat.

  • Check prices first: most bars display a drinks list. Drinks for staff are priced separately from your own.

  • Cash is simpler: smaller bars may not take cards.

  • Stay in Jomtien: the complex has its own cafés, restaurants and guesthouses, so an evening here does not need a taxi back to central Pattaya.
