Soi Bongkot: Pattaya's Low-Key Gentlemen Bar Street

Not every Pattaya night starts on Walking Street. Soi Bongkot, a quiet street inland from the beachfront, is known among repeat visitors for its cluster of gentlemen bars: around twenty small, sit-down venues where the evening is about a drink, a conversation and a more intimate atmosphere than the big entertainment strips. No neon, no crowds, no show. Adults only.

What to Expect

The street: a quiet residential soi, with bars opening their doors from the early afternoon. Discreet signs, a few lit entrances along both sides, and none of the neon spectacle of Walking Street, day or night.

Gentlemen bars: smaller venues with lounge seating, music kept at conversation level and staff who join you for a drink. Some have a pool table, most are built for sitting down rather than dancing. The experience varies a lot from one bar to the next.

The crowd: mostly expats and visitors who already know Pattaya and want to escape the tourist strips. Few first-timers, a relaxed and unhurried pace.

The rhythm: unlike the late-night districts, Soi Bongkot opens early. Most bars open in the early afternoon, between 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM, and close between midnight and 1:00 AM, so it works as well for an afternoon drink as for an evening out.

  • Check prices first: ask for the menu before ordering. Drinks for staff are usually priced separately from your own.

  • Afternoon drinks: one of the few nightlife streets in Pattaya where you can sit down for a drink in the middle of the afternoon.

  • Cash is simpler: smaller bars may not take cards.

  • It is a neighborhood: people live here. Keep the noise down when leaving, and treat staff with respect.

  • Combine your evening: Soi Buakhao, Tree Town and LK Metro are a short ride away for dinner before or a livelier bar after.
