Koh Phai: Bamboo Island, Pattaya's Unspoiled Paradise
About 20 km off the coast of Pattaya, Koh Phai, also known as Bamboo Island, is the largest island of the "Far Islands" archipelago. Uninhabited and protected by the Royal Thai Navy, it has no hotels, no restaurants and no permanent buildings, just a lighthouse, powdery white sand and crystal-clear turquoise water. With fewer visitors than the islands closer to the coast, its reefs are among the best preserved around Pattaya. A true escape, best enjoyed on a private boat.
What to Do on Koh Phai
Snorkel Among the Corals
Thanks to its distance from the coast and its protected status, Koh Phai offers some of the clearest water and healthiest corals near Pattaya, with colourful schools of fish close to the shore.
Relax on an Unspoiled Beach
Soft white sand, shallow lagoons and no development: the perfect setting for a lazy day by the sea, far from the crowds.
Picnic on the Beach
With no restaurants on the island, a picnic on the sand or a lunch served on your boat is part of the experience.
Explore the Archipelago
Koh Phai is surrounded by smaller islands, ideal for a full day of island hopping, snorkelling and swimming on a private boat.
How to Get There
By private boat or yacht: the best way to enjoy Koh Phai at your own pace, with lunch, drinks and snorkelling equipment on board. Ask our Concierge Team.
By snorkelling tour: some speedboat tours from Bali Hai Pier include Koh Phai.
No public ferry: the island can only be reached by boat, and landing is organised under the supervision of the Navy.
Practical Information
Location: about 20 km west of Pattaya, in the "Far Islands" archipelago
Access: by boat only, daytime visits only
Departure point: Bali Hai Pier, a few minutes from our villas in Soi Pattaya Land
Good to Know
Daytime only: visitors must leave the island before sunset, and no overnight stays are allowed.
No facilities: bring water, food, sunscreen and shade, or choose a boat that provides everything on board.
Protect the island: follow the Navy's instructions, do not touch the corals and take all your rubbish back with you.
Stay on the beach: the interior of the island is wild and home to monkeys, so it is best not to venture inland.
Season: November to April offers the calmest sea and the best visibility. Trips can be cancelled in rough weather.
