Boyztown: Pattaya's Original Gay Quarter

Long before Jomtien Complex, there was Boyztown. Boyztown, also written Boyz Town, is a short street in South Pattaya, between Beach Road and Second Road, a two-minute walk from Walking Street, and it has been the heart of the city's gay nightlife for decades. Show bars with nightly cabaret, pubs with a terrace on the street, host bars and a few late-night venues, all in one lane. Smaller and more central than Jomtien Complex, with a crowd that mixes regulars, visitors from the beach and anyone curious enough to walk in. Everyone is welcome.

What to Expect

The street: one lane with bars on both sides and a smaller strip in the next soi over. You see the whole quarter from the entrance, and most people drift between three or four venues in an evening.

Show bars: the signature of Boyztown. Cabaret and dance shows on stage most nights, usually later in the evening, in venues that have been running them for years.

Pubs and terraces: open-front pubs where you sit outside, watch the street and talk, including an Irish pub and a long-standing panoramic terrace. The easy first stop before the shows.

The crowd: gay men from Thailand and abroad, expats who have known the street for years, couples and groups of friends, and a good share of straight visitors who come for the shows. Friendly, welcoming and used to first-timers.

The rhythm: pubs from the late afternoon, show bars from the evening, with shows mostly around 10:00 PM and later, and the street active until the early hours.

  • Getting there: a few minutes' walk from Walking Street, or about 5 minutes by car from Soi Pattaya Land. Bolt or Grab is the easiest option, or ask our team to arrange your transport.

  • Age: the legal drinking age in Thailand is 20.

Good to Know

  • Catch a show: ask at the bar for show times and arrive a little early for a good seat. Shows are the reason most people come.

  • Start on a terrace: the pubs with street-side seating are the easy way in. Order a drink, watch the street, then decide where to go next.

  • Check prices first: most bars display a drinks list, and show bars may charge more for drinks during the show. Drinks for staff are priced separately from your own.

  • Cash is simpler: smaller bars may not take cards.

  • Combine your evening: Walking Street is around the corner, so Boyztown fits easily before or after a night there.
