Walking Street: Pattaya's Legendary Nightlife Strip

If you have heard one name about Pattaya, it is this one. Walking Street runs for 760 metres from the southern end of Beach Road to Bali Hai Pier, and every evening it closes to traffic and turns into the most concentrated stretch of nightlife in Thailand: mega clubs with international DJs open until 6:00 AM, Bollywood clubs, go-go bars, live-music bars, seafood restaurants on stilts over the water and street food on every corner, under a canopy of neon. Loud, deliberately spectacular, and unmissable on a first visit, even if you only walk through.

What to Expect

The street: a straight pedestrian strip with the famous arch at the Beach Road end, the sea on the right and the venues packed shoulder to shoulder on both sides. Side sois branch off to more clubs, and the pier at the far end gives you the only quiet spot on the whole street.

The clubs: Pattaya's biggest nights out happen here. Mega clubs on several floors with EDM and hip-hop, a cluster of Bollywood clubs at the southern end that has grown into a whole Indian quarter, and live-music bars for those who want a band rather than a DJ. Each has its own page below.

The go-go bars: the classic Pattaya format, a stage, dancers and a bar, behind doors that stay open just enough to tempt you in. Around twenty of them, from long-standing institutions to flashy new production venues.

The rest: seafood restaurants where you pick your fish from the ice, beer bars with a terrace on the street, street performers, late-night snacks, and at the end of the street Bali Hai Pier, the departure point for Koh Larn, the floating beach club and the go-kart track.

The crowd: everyone. First-time tourists walking the length with a phone in hand, groups of friends on a big night out, couples heading for a seafood dinner, and regulars heading straight for their club.

The rhythm: the street fills from sunset, the promenade and the restaurants peak in the early evening, go-go bars open at 8:00 PM, and the clubs run from midnight until 6:00 AM, later than anywhere else in Pattaya.

  • Opening hours: pedestrian every evening from around 7:00 PM; restaurants and bars from the late afternoon, go-go bars from 8:00 PM, clubs until 6:00 AM

  • Getting there: about 5 minutes by car from Soi Pattaya Land. Taxis drop you at the Beach Road arch or at Bali Hai Pier on the Pratumnak side. Bolt or Grab is the easiest option, or ask our team to arrange your transport.

  • Age: go-go bars and clubs are adults only. The legal drinking age in Thailand is 20.

Good to Know

  • Walk it first: go from the arch to the pier before choosing anything. The whole street takes ten minutes and you will see every option.

  • Check prices first: clubs often charge an entry fee that includes a drink, and go-go bars post their drink prices at the door. Ask before you sit down, and keep an eye on your bill.

  • Ignore the touts: the people with menus and laminated cards get a commission. Pick your own venue and walk in yourself.

  • Keep valuables close: it is crowded. Phone in a front pocket, wallet zipped away.

  • Leaving late: taxis and baht buses wait on Soi Marine, off Walking Street, and at Bali Hai Pier at the far end. Both are easier than the crowd at the Beach Road arch.
