Bang Saen Beach: Thailand's Favourite Local Seaside Escape
About 45 minutes to 1 hour north of Pattaya, near Chonburi, Bang Saen is one of the most beloved beaches of Thai families and the closest real beach to Bangkok. Far from the international tourist scene, it offers a genuine Thai seaside atmosphere: a long beach with calm, shallow water, a promenade shaded by casuarina trees, grilled squid and seafood stalls, trendy cafés and the famous Khao Sam Muk, the "Monkey Hill", watching over the bay.
What to Do in Bang Saen
Enjoy a Thai-Style Beach Day
Rent a lounger and umbrella, order grilled seafood from the beach vendors and enjoy the lively atmosphere of a Thai family beach, especially at weekends. The sea is calm and shallow, ideal for families.
Walk or Cycle Along the Promenade
A long seaside promenade, shaded by casuarina trees, runs along the beach, perfect for a walk, a jog or a bike ride at sunset.
Climb Khao Sam Muk
At the end of the bay, the small hill of Khao Sam Muk is home to a Chinese shrine, a viewpoint over the bay and a large troop of free-roaming monkeys. A local landmark, featured on the seal of Chonburi province.
Seafood and Cafés
Bang Saen is famous for its seafood restaurants and its trendy seaside cafés, popular with students from the nearby university and with weekend visitors from Bangkok. The fishing market of Ang Sila is just next door.
